Have you been worried about labiaplasty due to how long it may take you to recover from it? Whenever you consider having excess and/or asymmetrical labia skin removed, you don’t want to miss several weeks of work, activities, and the like? The good news is that the recovery period from this surgery is not that onerous. In fact, the recovery period can be short indeed. Every person who undergoes the procedure is different, some may have considerations others do not, and so forth. However, we can tell you from years of connecting patients to clinicians, the recovery period may be easier than you think.
In Two Months or Less
For full recovery, from the surgery itself to “full recovery” takes, on average, six to eight weeks. In this context, “full recovery” is defined as no pain whatsoever for the patient even if they have a job that entails sitting at a desk for hours on end, a job that is physically demanding, and so forth. Additionally, “full recovery” includes normal sexual activity without any pain or just mild discomfort.
Recovery Begins Right After the Procedure
Your surgeon will discuss this at length with you before the operation, but, in the first few days after the procedure, it’s strongly recommended that you limit the time that you’re on your feet as well as abstaining from both sexual activity as well as form-fitting clothing. In some cases, reducing swelling by placing ice on the vulva occasionally can be recommended. So many patients have recovered fully with only mild pain relievers such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and so forth. For a majority of patients, they should stay off of their feet for three to four days or so.

You Won’t Be Bedridden
Once that time has passed, however, the patient can engage in more and more physical activity. Indeed, for many patients, it’s around days six and seven of recovery that they have their stitches removed. By the third week, provided things are going well, many patients are able to feel comfortable when they sit, to move around without feeling overly sensitive. Light exercise is often introduced around day 16, but being careful here is important. To use an example, it’s strongly recommended that even the healthiest patients wait until the sixth week of recovery to begin running again.
