What questions should a patient ask a doctor before undergoing a labiaplasty? Probably the first thing a patient should do is to decide whether to use a board-certified gynecologist or a plastic surgeon. Some patients will not allow anyone other than a gynecologist to operate on this part of the body. Because the labia minora is an external structure, most plastic surgeons feel comfortable operating on this part of the female anatomy. However, doing a vaginal rejuvenation procedure probably is best done by a gynecologist, as they are trained in this type of surgery throughout their career.
The next most important consideration by the patient is to ask the physician how many labiaplasties has he or she done in their career or how many have they done in the past year. If a physician has not done at least a thousand cases in the past several years, this might be an area of concern. There is no set number which indicates expertise, however, a physician who has performed 2000 procedures in his or her career is probably best suited to perform the patient surgery
One final note, the patient should ask the physician for a catalog of before and after pictures. This will help the patient to make an educated decision.
